Experience |
Anderson University Ultimate is a fresh program in only its first few school years of organization. Our experience is minimal but developing very quickly. In our first three semesters, AUU competed with numerous larger, longer established teams like Ball State, Purdue, Rose-Hulman, North Park, Xavier, Valparaiso, Marquette, U. of Cincinnati, Earlham and Kentucky and played considerably well, even defeating Ball State, Xavier, Earlham and Valparaiso. Our level of competition is moderate and our experience is compounding rapidly. Most AUU team members began playing ultimate competitively when they came to college, with little or no previous experience. However, athleticism and drive to improve skills and knowledge of the sport gave AUU team members the initial thrust they needed to compete. If you have competent disc skills, are athletic, and/or understand adequately the structure and fundamentals of ultimate, you will fare well with AUU and can look forward to first-year playing time. We are very excited to welcome and develop new players! |
Funding |
We project that the program will receive roughly $300 in the coming year for club funding. Also, we are planning several fundraisers, including sale of discs/shirts/bumper stickers, a home tournament, and sponsorship to offset player costs. Other teammate expenses may include small gas and registration fees for tournaments. Generally, because our team is so geographically diverse, we can find free lodging and meals for tournaments via the hospitality of a teammate's parents. Thank you moms and dads! |
Goals |
Thus far, our team goals have been to give AU students who play and love the sport an alternatively competitive outlet supported by positive encouragement and cooperation. As the team becomes established, our goals will change. But for now, we keep things simple: develop new players, play in a handful of big tournaments each year, and compete in spring college sectionals. Future goals include competing in College Series Regionals and Division 3 Nationals, developing a deep, fundamentally experienced program complemented by a women's team, organizing an annual charity tournament, and infusing Anderson University, the state of Indiana, and the Midwest with the culture of a sport which is founded on cooperation, inclusion, and an encouraging spirit. Off the field, and on of course, we are all strong friends and teammates who share many meals and complete numerous dump-swing combinations together. Team extras include impromptu dinner parties (our women ultimate players, who are growing in number, can cook some mean dishes and bake some supple cookies), snultimate (snow-ultimate), multimate (mud-ultimate), campus frolf, and looking elegant in an orange AUU jersey. |
