This post is coming to you early tonight, thanks to the counselors having one on one meetings with campers right now. Today was another awesome day full of highly competitive ultimate. Campers gathered to learn about a new mental toughness technique, as well as learning about receiving fouls. After working on their offense and zone defense with their teams, it was finally time to scrimmage. Salmon team looked like top dog early on in a match with Green, but got a reality check when they tied their scrimmage with Carolina Blue. With all teams showing they came to play the tournament tomorrow is sure to be highly contested. With only four teams, everyone makes semis. However, tomorrows games will generate the seeding for the bracket, with everyone vying for the one seed.
In addition to their scrimmages, campers competed in the Disc Olympics. In the campers 16 and over distance competition, Leo Galbraith-Paul rose above the rest, throwing his disc the farthest. In the campers 15 and under division Graeme Piette ripped an inside-out backhand further than the rest of the campers in this division. All the campers had fun testing their distance. Even the counselors joined in, with Michael Brenner coming out on top in the men’s division and Leila Tunnell in the women’s division. In the MTA competition after two teams DQ’d the Carolina Blue team came out on top with a hang time of 6.42 seconds. In a highly contested disc golf competition, all four teams were tied at two under par until Anders Olsen of the Sapphire Team hit a miracle hole in one to bring his team to 4 under. It was truly an incredible shot.
All the campers had a blast competing in these fun events which will culminate in tomorrow’s disc spinning competition at the talent show. Lots of points are on the line and it’s anyone’s game.
We closed out the night with everyone’s favorite, Trade Night. Campers and counselors alike brought out all their awesome Frisbee gear to trade and sell. Plenty of jerseys from Amherst to Carleton College were being spread around and everyone was able to find something cool.
As I said earlier, the campers are having their meetings right now before they head to bed. The tournament starts tomorrow with the NUTC gold medal shirts up for grabs.
