NUTC’s Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What measures do you have in place to ensure the safety of all campers?
A: On the closed campus of Mount Holyoke College, we take every precaution to ensure the safety of our campers. All staff strive to promote and teach safe play on the field. Our staff is well versed in the dangers of dehydration and the importance of sunscreen. We provide ample water, Gatorade, and sunscreen for campers to use throughout the day and back at the dorm.
We also have a certified athletic trainer on-site 24/7 for support at the fields/dorms and to help administer medications, observe campers and attend to minor injuries. The athletic trainer and counselors are also on-site 24/7 to supervise all camp activities. If necessary, we also will provide or arrange transportation to the hospital in case of an emergency. Parents/guardians are encouraged to contact our directors with any concerns about the health of their child.
Q: What is the cancellation policy?
A: If you need to cancel your registration there is a $100 cancellation fee up until midnight ET May 16th. All cancellations after this date are nonrefundable (with director discretion for partial refunds).
Q: What should I pack?
A: For Playing: Broken-in cleats, athletic shorts, athletic jerseys, hats/visors, lots of socks!, water bottle(s), rain gear, and any other essentials for athletics.
For Recreational Time: Swimsuits, shoes/flip-flops/sandals for walking around campus and the dorms, comfortable clothing, spending money for trade night (not essential, only if desired), snacks, something pink for our camp tradition called Pink Tuesday!
For the Dorms: Pillow, sheets, blanket (if wanted - the dorms are usually pretty warm), fan, towel, toiletries, anything needed for sleeping over for five nights! Note: we can provide fans, pillows, sheets, and towels for campers flying or coming by train
Q: How old do I have to be to attend camp?
A: We welcome all high school and incoming high school players aged 14-18 years old. Players should be 14 years or older at the time they are attending camp. Campers who are 18 and have already attended a year of college are not eligible. Please reach out if you have any questions regarding your child’s age and eligibility for camp.
Q: What is the level of play at camp?
A: Many campers come in with at least some prior experience and knowledge of the rules. We always welcome new players to camp and will provide individual attention when needed. Camp is a challenging physical experience and campers should show up ready to play. Our motto is to “push and support” these young athletes and we do our best to strike a healthy balance.
We also offer a day camp for those who are looking for a more introductory experience.
Q: What are the staffs’ qualifications
A: Here at NUTC we hire the best staff available. We recruit top notch players and coaches from around the country, many of whom have won college, club, and international championships as well as individual talent awards such as POTY, Callahan, Donovan, Coach of the Year, and Spirit Awards.
We also place a priority on choosing counselors who have some teaching experience. We train them in the most effective ways to explain and motivate our campers.
Q: What’s included at camp?
A: All campers are provided with room and board on the Mount Holyoke College campus. Campers are encouraged to bring snacks to eat at the dorm or at the field. Each camper will also receive a disc, bag, and camp jersey upon arrival.
Q: When are campers dropped off/picked up?
A: NUTC campers arrive and check in on Sundays from 2-4PM. Departure/check out for all campers is Friday at 11:30AM. (NOTE: Friday morning we have tournament games/an award ceremony that is open to all camper friends/family. The games begin at 8AM and the awards ceremony begins at 11AM. Checkout happens directly after the awards ceremony is complete.)
Q: What does the daily schedule of camp look like?
A: Every day consists of a morning and afternoon session at the fields where campers will learn new concepts through instruction, drills and scrimmaging. In the evenings we have fun camp activities planned ranging from a camper/counselor game to a talent show. The end of the week culminates in a camp wide tournament to highlight the skills they have learned and the friendships they have made.
Q: What are the camp demographics?
A: Players from all around the country have attended camp. We have had players from Hungary, Colombia, Canada, Germany, China, and South Korea join us at NUTC!
