“Training Your Team to Be Mentally Resilient”

Ultimate coaches and captains often focus on teaching skills, drills and strategy to their teams. While the physical aspects of team building are important, developing a strong mental game is essential to reach consistent success, no matter what kind of team you coach. Being part of a team that values mental training often makes the physical game easier, effective and more fun.

Tiina and Tulsa will explain the foundational pieces of mental resilience and how to train individuals and your team to excel with this program. They will provide exercises and drills that will work to bring your team to the next level.

This course is designed for leaders of middle school, high school, college and club teams. It will also be recorded and available to participants after the course.

USAU Recertification Credits are available for this course.

“Bringing Your Team to the Next Level” (NEW)

Whether in high school, college, or club, one of the constants of ultimate is the excitement of starting a new year with the idea that "this is your year." However, it is not easy for teams to make that dream come true, and if they do, it's even harder for them to maintain that new level year after year. Finding the secret sauce that keeps a team at a consistent high level is one of the most difficult jobs in sports, yet in this course, that is exactly what we will attempt to do.

We will discuss the steps it takes to raise your team's level, and the work it takes to keep your team there. We will be talking about strategies for buy-in, communication, which skills to work on, managing energy and burnout, and more.

Luisa Neves is a member of New York XIST, and is a proud graduate of the Metro East College Division. Tim Bobrowski is a coach of the Northeastern University Huskies, and is also a proud graduate of the Metro East college division.

This course is designed for leaders of middle school, high school, college and club teams. It will be recorded and available to participants after the course.

“College Recruiting Panel”

EEvery session at NUTC, campers and parents are greeted with a sign that says, “Colleges Represented at Camp This Week.” We encourage staff to answer any questions about playing opportunities beyond high school and our alumni counselors are eager to share and recruit.

This panel opens this experience to more high school athletes who may not attend our camp. Discussions will be led by graduates and coaches of 10 schools from around the country. We will have reps from both Div 1 and Div 3 who will be happy to answer any questions. In addition, attendees will have access to an ebook with information from these schools and others. Parents are most welcome at this session.

Ultimate may not be an NCAA sport but we do understand the importance of making the right match for aspiring players. We hope this panel will help inform these decisions for many years to come!

“An Evening with Mitch Dengler” (NEW)

As Mitch Dengler knows better than anyone, ultimate teams need to improve their knowledge of the rules. Mitch has been a certified Observer since 2009 and was the National Observer Director for USAU from 2013-2023. He has observed approximately 1060 games in this career.

Mitch will first present some of the most commonly misunderstood and misplayed rules in our sport, supplemented by examples on film. He will explain how the rule is often misinterpreted and how it should be understood and played. We will also offer a Q and A session during the last 30 minutes of class.

Ultimate leaders often struggle with teaching rules well and this seminar will be invaluable to teams of every level. Mitch's presence and expertise will improve the level of competitive fairness far and wide. We are lucky to have him join us this winter.

This class will be recorded and available to participants after the course.

What do coaches look for in tryouts? How do you prepare for making a new team? This panel of coaches will explain how to bring your best self, how to show your coachability and how to showcase skills in tryouts for youth, college, club and national teams.

Designing effective tryouts relies on theory as well as pragmatics. Coaches will discuss how to be efficient, which drills they like to run, and how to evaluate players’ strengths and weaknesses at all levels.
